Scaping the land is a multimedia project
A Specially Created Site-Specific Event by Melanie Thompson
Part of an ongoing project initiated in August 2011
Melanie Thompson has lived in Somerset for over 20 years and has long wanted to respond to its beauty and rich history through contemporary art and performance.
Over the past year, she has created three short films and a film installation for Orchestra in a Field at Glastonbury Abbey, commissioned by Charles Hazlewood in July.
Her latest focus is the Abbey Barn at the Rural Life Museum. For this, she has invited a young composer to create a soundscape using voices from the Rural Life sound archive. These voices will echo from the walls of the building, sharing stories of Somerset life from the last 100 years to the present day.
